Brag on Bonnie

I am thrilled to write this post. I’ll tell you, I have been trying to write it for a few weeks now, but between caring for my family, writing articles for magazine,  speaking engagements, spring cleaning, planting, and planning this summer’s events, I have not found even 5 minutes to think…much less write this post.

Herbs grow great in raised beds. They are really very easy to make.

I want to brag on Bonnie Plants for a few minutes. Please stay with me during this…you won’t believe what all they have to offer. They have really ramped up just about every area of their already amazing company, from their website to a new app that you really just can’t live without.

First, I want to brag on the generosity of the amazing people who work at Bonnie Plants – from the President, Stan Cope and his first-rate executive assistant Cheryl Lange to the social media and website gurus, Lois Chaplin, Su Reid St. John, and Amanda Davis. They are generous with their talents, time, and PLANTS! Thanks to them, I have a farm full of thriving herbs, vegetables, and fertilizer.

I have used their plants (they are GMO-free, you know) and their fertilizer for many many years and they have not failed me, not even once.

I love “planting weekend” at our home.

We usually wait until after Good Friday to plant the garden (this year, I just couldn’t wait that long!) and the entire family takes part in planting all the great vegetables and herbs we receive from Bonnie Plants along with the heirloom seeds that we plant from the previous year (after saving the best of the best).

For the herbs and lettuce I planted sweet basil, cilantro, onion chives, dill, lemon balm, Greek, Hot and Spicy, and Italian Oregano, Sage, Sweet, Mint, Peppermint, Spearmint, Thyme, Italian and Curled Parsley, Lavender, Rosemary, and Lettuce (Heading, Romaine, Buttercrunch, Red, and Red Romaine).

I planted most of my lettuces in my hydroponics system. It is growing beautifully.

Using the hydroponics gardening system is a great way to grow plants vertically if you have only a small space to work with.

We have all kinds of varieties of pear trees and apple trees along with pomegranate, fig, peach, plum, lemon, loquat, and orange trees. Strawberries are abundant and blueberries and blackberries will be ready to pick soon (our planted ones and the wild ones).

For the vegetable garden I planted many varieties of tomatoes, crowder peas, pole beans, squash, cucumbers, eggplant, all kinds of peppers, okra, sweet potatoes, and corn.

The Bonnie Plant tribe are all about creating great food for you… yes, you! They are always thinking about the consumer. That makes a difference!

Let me do a little more bragging on Bonnie Plants. Bonnie has just created this amazing App. The official version of the new (free!) app for iPhone, Homegrown with Bonnie Plants, is now available on the App Store—and you can download it right here. (If you don’t have an iPhone, no worries—they will hopefully have an Android version by this time next year…)

This handy companion makes it easier and more fun to grow your own food. With it, you can:

– Take notes and photos in the garden;

– Set reminder notifications for tasks like watering and fertilizing;

– Access a Grow Guide for each plant, with info such as best spacing, light requirements, harvest guidelines, and more;

– Use the Tomato Chooser and Pepper Chooser to help you find just the right tomatoes and peppers for your garden;

– Look up companion planting suggestions;

– See current and predicted weather forecasts for your local area, including temperature and rainfall;

– Create a personalized list of plants growing in your garden;

– Easily track when you plant, water, care for, and harvest your plants;

– Go nearly hands-free in the garden with the dictation feature;

– Quickly and easily share triumphs and challenges with friends and family via Facebook, Twitter, and other social channels.

You are going to love it, SERIOUSLY LOVE IT! What a genius idea!
