Dove Season Warrants a Skeet Shooting Outing with the Family
DOVE SEASON WARRANTS A SKEET SHOOTING OUTING WITH THE FAMILY
Yesterday was opening day of dove season in Alabama. Dove are the filet mignon of the air, and we all look very forward to this season. Although the boys brought home more than 20 birds, a few of the boys weren’t too happy with their shooting performance and, therefore, insisted on shooting practice this afternoon.
Scott loves skeet shooting and is so happy that all our boys love it too. It is hard to believe, but everyone of the kids love to shoot skeet! What a heritage their dad has passed down to them.
We had a fantastic time…that is after we got the skeet machine to work correctly. We all got 4 shots each for our turns whether we hit one or not. The little girls didn’t want to shoot, but enjoyed eating the snacks and watching the rest of the family shoot.
My mom and even had a turn! My step-dad, Joe, was ready for the action too.
It seems so impossible that anyone would be able to hit a moving target and especially when you set the machine to release two at the time.
I notice that if I think too much and plan how I am going to aim, shoot, get the ball on the end of the gun just over the skeet…I miss. If I relax, follow the skeet and just shoot, I hit it every time.
When it all comes down to it, I don’t really care if we hit any of the skeet at all.
It’s the family bonds that are built while practicing towards a goal together that brings me joy.
Seeing my kids helping each other, laughing together, involving their grandparent’s in their activities (and the grandparent’s not having to sit on the sidelines just watching the kids), and sharing their love of the outdoors are the times I will treasure as memories in days to come.
I hope their love for each other will last throughout the generations and on into later generations after that! What a blessing!!
Happy dove season!
Seems lime you guys had a great time! Nothing beats spending time outdoor with the family.
We had so much fun Marc! You are so right. Nothing beats time with the family! Have a great night and thanks for the comment.
I just found your blog. I think it’s great. Your post was fun to read, my kids are young but in a few years, starting a skeet shooting tradition would be awesome. I was most intrigued by your comment that dove are the filet mignon of the air…I love dove hunting, but they are not my favorite game bird to eat, I will be searching your site for dove recipes…hoping to change my opinion next season!
I am so glad you found my site!! I hope you will enjoy it and feel at home here! I’ll make sure to post more dove recipes; they are fantastic!!
